Workshop on ITEP, NMM, and NPST Concludes at MANUU

Hyderabad: Two-Day National Sensitisation and Orientation Workshop on ITEP, NMM, and NPST organised by National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE) at Maulana Azad National Urdu University (MANUU) concluded on Friday. The workshop, aiming to engage key educational stakeholders, including representatives from NCERT, NIEPA, CBSE, KVS, JNV, States/UTs, SCERTs, DIETs, and PM SHRI Schools was organised in collaboration with MANUU's School of Education and Training (SE&T).

In her inaugural address, Prof. Shashikala Wanjari, Vice-Chancellor, NIEPA shared her insights on teaching, describing it as both an art and a science. She referred to Bruner's theory of instruction, emphasising its prescriptive, normative, and descriptive nature. While sharing her experiences, Prof. Wanjari reiterated the significance of aligning teaching practices with professional standards, as outlined in NEP 2020 and NCTE's norms. She also discussed the concept of "Panchkosh Vikas," urging teachers to focus on holistic development.

Prof. Pankaj Arora, Chairperson, NCTE presented two key modules on NMM and NPST, emphasising the NEP 2020’s vision of fostering passionate, motivated, highly qualified, and professionally trained teachers. He also discussed the importance of interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary approaches, as well as the values of sharing, caring, collaboration, and support embedded in the policy.

"Mentoring is not about creating replicas but about inspiring individuals to unfold their unique potential and become the best version of themselves" quoted Prof. Syed Ainul Hasan, Vice-Chancellor, MANUU in his presidential address. He drew on references from the Mahabharata and Ramayana to illustrate the mentor-mentee concept, sharing an inspirational story of ‘Karn and his Kavach’ from the Mahabharata. Prof. Hasan encouraged teachers to adhere to professional standards and reflected on historical figures like Kalidas and Shakuntala, as well as the role of teachers in Greek society. He emphasized that within the lines of history and tradition, there lies a duty to perform—mentoring is a part of that duty.

Prof Vanaja M., Dean, School of Education & Training delivered the welcome address. She emphasised the School's commitment to offering a comprehensive range of teacher education courses and expressed hope to implement any new programs launched by NCTE in the future. The book on Physical Science Teaching, edited by Prof. Vanaja M was also released on the occasion.
